So, all the bloody photos I took from our walk last week when we walked from Little Venice to Regent’s Park and back to Little Venice I can’t download from my stupid phone. Oh well. This time I was more girl guide about it and took an actual camera. Woop woop. So, for today’s urban glamble we did a city walk rather than along the canals. The starting point was Monument tube and then we ambled through past various
Sir Christopher Wren designed churches. Who would’ve thought there would be so many churches in quite a small area. For this Easter urban glamble, our cousin Sarah joined us. Here starts the love affair with this great city.
St Magnus the Martyr church on Lower Thames Street
Anyway, that was the extent of my photos of Wren churches. We glambled along beside the Thames and got hassled by workmen. Great. The walk in the book (37 Pathfinder guide: In and Around London Walks) takes you back to Monument tube but we chose to deviate along the Victoria Embankment and rather than go through the Temple Gardens and to Fleet Street etc we continued to Embankment tube. Along the way there were random flowers on the pavement near Somerset House. So gorgeous, this is why I love our urban glambles, for these moments of unexpected beauty.
Random flower no. 1 held by cousin Sarah
Random flower no. 2 held by Jaqs
Purrrrrtyyyyyy flowers! We continued glambling past Somerset House and I saw this sign. So cool in the middle of London.
Help. Get me one of these!
We continued through Embankment tube station up past Charing Cross Road tube and through to around Leicester Square. En route I saw this. Never noticed it before even though I have walked past it many times. It’s a bit embarrassing but fun being a tourist in your home city.
Love Oscar Wilde and have been to his grave in Paris
We walked through China Town and Soho, up past the John Snow pub and came upon another unexpected beauteous sight. Jaqs’ and my favourite car in the whole wide world. FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous!
So, in total we walked 5 1/2 miles. Glambling tip, you can download a pedometer app for your Iphone. It works.

You need to find the Ironmongers Guildhall near the London Museum, it was nearly knocked down by the museum in order to expand but won it’s battle in the courts. It is a lovely example of a mock tudor building in London. Keep up the exercise and take your mama next walk.
